Student Absence Procedures

Attendance

Parents are asked to help ensure students are here on a regular basis. If students aren’t here, teachers and students have a difficult time doing their work as effectively as each would like. Students miss important activities and doing them later is not the same as doing them with the attending instruction. Regular attendance is conducive to children achieving their personal best and is a Westbrook policy states that any student who misses more than 15% of a term without an excuse - i.e., a parent note, a doctor's note, a family bereavement, etc. -will be:

  • Sent a letter from the school outlining the dates missed through an attendance certificate. A copy of the letter will be placed in the student's file.
  • Asked for a medical note from a physician to denote a reason for the absence - i.e., an illness, an injury, etc.

Although this is very rare, should a student's attendance continue to be an issue, a second letter will be issued to the parents and the Rocky View Schools' truant officer will be contacted.
